Parents and residents say the school and police did nothing after a child was allegedly raped, and that the teacher kept coming to class every day.

Parents and residents gathered outside a Soweto school to protest over a teacher accused of rape, saying the child was allegedly assaulted and that the school did nothing to help. The teacher, they said, kept coming to work every day to teach as if nothing had happened.

Their anger was aimed at the school and at the police in equal measure. Residents said the school was “busy, quiet” and that there had been no response and no communication made to the parents. They accused the police station of failing the community, saying the people meant to protect citizens of this country were failing them, and raised what they described as corruption in the case.

One woman at the protest said no one deserves to be raped and that women are supposed to be safe, especially at school. She said it made no sense that a teacher could be accused of raping a child at school while the head of department protected him, and that even his colleagues were protecting him.

Asked how the community felt about the teacher continuing to teach other children despite the allegations, another protester called it a disgrace and said she was frustrated beyond words. She said people had sacrificed their jobs and their time to come and stand for the rights of the children of this country, and that teachers cannot carry on as though rape were a right thing.

The protesters’ demand was straightforward: that justice take place, that people be held accountable, and that the school answer for what they say it did not do. They said no one deserves to be raped, that no woman deserves to be raped, and that rape in this country needs to come to an end.

The account of the protest and the allegations were carried by eNCA (YouTube) in a broadcast on 20 October 2026 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW9kxem_R1E). The teacher has not been named in that reporting, and the allegations have not been tested in court.
