Free State public order police arrested two men in Heilbron on Friday during Operation Shanela II, seizing suspected drugs at two separate addresses, the South African Police Service said.

The arrests followed a tip-off. Members of the Sasolburg Public Order Police were on patrol in Heilbron on 2 October 2026 when they received information about two premises allegedly being used for drug dealing.

At the first address, police found a 40-year-old man in possession of suspected drugs. Two zip lock bags containing crystal meth and a quarter of a Mandrax tablet were confiscated, and he was arrested.

Officers then went to the second address, where they found a 28-year-old man with 15 zip lock bags containing crystal meth. He was also arrested.

Both men are expected to appear before the Heilbron Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of suspected drugs, according to the statement from the office of the Free State provincial commissioner.

The account is drawn from a SAPS media statement summarising the operation. It does not name the suspects, and the charges have not yet been tested in court.
