Carrim arrest a warning to anyone dodging the commission, says OUTA
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse wants the inquiry to reopen its interviews with the witness, arguing his evidence left gaps that still need explaining.
The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse has welcomed the arrest of a witness who failed to appear before a commission of inquiry, saying it should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can sit out the process.
eNCA (YouTube) reported OUTA’s position, including its view that a person well enough to travel is well enough to give testimony. The organisation argued that the commission should reopen its interviews with the witness as soon as possible, because his original evidence left information missing that he still has to explain.
OUTA said there are links between the witness and Morgan Mamela, and links to money flows into Medicare contracts involving Vusimus Matlala and Brown Makudi. Those matters, it said, need to be accounted for, and it wants the commission to put the facts to him again.
On the evidence already heard, OUTA said it did not find the witness convincing.
Its conclusion was blunt. Anyone who tries to evade the commission’s work will suffer the consequences, and the organisation described that outcome as important for society.
The source material does not state the witness’s full name, the date of the arrest or the name of the commission. The broadcast is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfLK438Rhag.
