Stabbed three times at his workplace gate, Tubatse man sees attacker jailed for 15 years
The Burgersfort Regional Court sentenced Thagelo McDonald Sebola, 44, to 15 years' direct imprisonment for the attempted murder of a 26-year-old man in Sekhukhune District in June 2025.
A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for attempted murder after stabbing a man three times in the stomach at the gate of his workplace in Tubatse, in the Sekhukhune District of Limpopo.
The Burgersfort Regional Court handed down the sentence to Thagelo McDonald Sebola on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, the South African Police Service said in a statement from the office of the provincial commissioner in Polokwane.
The court heard that the complainant, a 26-year-old man from Riba Cross, was standing at the gate of his workplace on 19 June 2025 when a Toyota Rumion stopped. According to the police account, the driver insulted him without provocation. When the complainant told the driver to show respect, the accused allegedly grabbed him by his clothes and stabbed him three times in the stomach before fleeing.
The injured man secured help from a Good Samaritan who took him to hospital for treatment.
Constable Robert Mogale of SAPS Tubatse took on the case and followed up on all leads until Sebola was brought to justice, the police said.
Alongside the prison term, the court declared Sebola unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
The South African Police Service in Limpopo welcomed the sentence. The statement was issued through Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
