President Cyril Ramaphosa will launch the R100 billion Free State Catalytic Investment and Industrialisation Project in Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality on Friday, according to the Presidency.

The launch will be held at the Phuthaditjhaba Multipurpose Centre in QwaQwa. It will be hosted by Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality and Chinese investors, Joy Long-YJC.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Presidency said the project will mobilise automotive assembly, electric mobility technologies, components, energy systems, logistics, skills and local suppliers.

“The project represents an investment of approximately R100 billion and is expected to contribute to manufacturing, industrialisation, green economy development and the energy transition, while creating approximately 6 500 permanent jobs,” the Presidency said.

The Presidency described the project as a boost to the Free State economy, aimed at stimulating investment and industrialisation in the province.
