Police in Christiana arrested a 21-year-old man for dealing in dagga after seizing 4.654 kilograms of compressed dagga on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, the South African Police Service said in a statement.

The arrest followed information the police received about a person allegedly in possession of a large quantity of dagga. Members of Visible Policing followed up on that information and located the suspect along the N12 road close to Christiana.

On searching him, police found two 20-litre drums in his possession. The drums were opened and several packages were found inside. On inspection, the packages were found to contain compressed dagga.

The dagga was confiscated and Lusanda Nhlangothi (21) was arrested and charged with possession of dagga.

He appeared before the Christiana Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 29 October 2026. The case was postponed to Thursday, 5 November 2026 for a bail application, and he was remanded in custody.

The Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, commended the members for acting on the information received and for preventing the suspected illegal distribution of drugs.

Enquiries on the case can be directed to Captain Majang Skalkie on 082 856 1449.
