A 36-year-old Schauderville man has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for the murder of 56-year-old Jefferson Williams in Gqeberha.

Jason Clarke was sentenced on Friday, 16 October 2026, after being convicted of murder, the South African Police Service said in a statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner for the Eastern Cape. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The killing happened at a residence in Jameson Road on 10 December 2024. According to the police account, Clarke and Williams became involved in an argument and a fight broke up. Clarke later returned to the residence and entered a bedroom where Williams was speaking with his granddaughter.

Clarke first attempted to stab the granddaughter. Williams intervened and was stabbed in the right arm. Clarke then stabbed Williams several times in the neck, shoulder, flank and buttocks.

Williams was taken to Livingstone Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Clarke was arrested on 11 December 2024.

The case was investigated by Sergeant Sergio Mack of the Gelvandale Detectives. Gelvandale Station Commander Brigadier Abdoerahgmaan Humphries commended Sergeant Mack for the investigation that contributed to the conviction.

The statement, published on the SAPS newsroom at https://www.saps.gov.za/newsroom/msspeechdetail.php?nid=72000, is a police summary of the case and the sentencing rather than the court record itself. Enquiries can be directed to Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg on 082 779 7173.
