Ditsobotla residents have lost hope, and the ninth administrator is still in the building
eNCA (YouTube) reports from Kolini, where parties are campaigning for votes in a municipality under Section 139 administration until September 2027.
Residents of the Ditsobotla local municipality say they have no hope and no trust that their situation will change, as political parties campaign in Kolini for support ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
That is the account carried by eNCA (YouTube), which reported from Kolini, one of the towns in the municipality, where service delivery has been a source of struggle for residents for some time.
The municipality is under administration in terms of Section 139 of the Constitution, an intervention from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs that came through last year. The broadcaster reports it is the ninth such intervention in a few years.
Those interventions, eNCA (YouTube) reports, have yielded no positive results up to this point. The administrator is expected to remain in the municipal offices until September 2027.
Political parties came out in numbers in Kolini to campaign. The broadcaster named the South African Federation of Trade Unions’ political wing, Saftu, as campaigning for the first time in the 2026 local government elections, and the Democratic Alliance, which holds a number of seats in the municipality’s hung council.
Against that campaigning, the residents the broadcaster spoke to said they see no reason to expect the situation to change at any given time.
