Man, 49, arrested at OR Tambo minutes before international flight over Madlanga Commission no-show
The Commissions Recommendations Task Team says the arrest at OR Tambo International Airport relates to his failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
A 49-year-old man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday evening, 15 October 2026, moments before he was due to board an international flight.
The South African Police Service says the arrest was carried out by the Commissions Recommendations Task Team (CRTT) and relates to his failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
He is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday, 16 October 2026.
Police have not named the man or said which flight he intended to take or where it was headed. The SAPS media statement, issued in Pretoria, records the arrest and the court appearance and gives no further detail on the commission’s interest in him or on what he is alleged to have failed to do.
Enquiries on the matter are directed to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe of the SAPS.
