Godongwana tables the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament on Wednesday
President Cyril Ramaphosa will be in the National Assembly at 14h00 as the Finance Minister sets out spending, revenue and the three-year fiscal framework that shapes the next national budget.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tables the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament on Wednesday 21 October 2026, with President Cyril Ramaphosa in the house for the occasion.
The statement is due at 14h00 in the Good Hope Chambers in Cape Town, according to a government media advisory.
The Mid-Term budget plays a critical role in the entire budgetary process, setting the tone for the country’s fiscal framework for the next national budget. It also gives Parliament and South Africans an update on how Treasury perceives present economic realities.
Wednesday’s statement sets government policy goals and priorities, forecasts the macroeconomic track and projects the fiscal framework over the next three years by outlining spending and revenue estimates, among others.
The detail of what Treasury will project, and whether the spending and revenue estimates shift from the framework already in place, is not carried in the advisory. That is what Wednesday’s tabling will set out.
Enquiries on the statement are directed to Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson to President Ramaphosa, at media@presidency.gov.za.
The advisory was issued by the South African Government (www.gov.za), which published it at https://www.gov.za/news/media-advisories/government-activities/president-cyril-ramaphosa-attends-medium-term-budget. It is a scheduling notice rather than the budget record itself, and the numbers it describes will only exist once the Minister has tabled them.
