Godongwana tables medium-term budget as Ramaphosa takes his seat in Parliament
The Medium Term Budget Policy Statement sets the fiscal tone for the next national budget and gives Parliament and South Africans Treasury's read on the economy, with the finance minister tabling it at 14h00 in the Good Hope Chambers.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tables the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, with President Cyril Ramaphosa in the house for the sitting.
The statement is due at 14h00 in the Good Hope Chambers in Cape Town, according to the Presidency’s advisory on the President’s attendance. South African Government (www.gov.za) published the advisory at https://www.gov.za/news/media-advisories/government-activities/president-cyril-ramaphosa-attends-medium-term-budget-0.
The advisory sets out what the mid-term budget does in the annual cycle. It sets the tone for the country’s fiscal framework for the next national budget, and it gives Parliament and South Africans an update on how Treasury perceives present economic realities.
Wednesday’s statement will set out government’s policy goals and priorities, forecast the macroeconomic track and project the fiscal framework over the next three years, outlining spending and revenue estimates among other things.
That is the scope the Presidency describes. The figures themselves, the spending and revenue estimates, the growth forecasts and any decisions on taxes or allocations, are not in the advisory and will be known only when Godongwana delivers the statement.
Media enquiries on the President’s attendance are directed to Vincent Magwenya, Spokesperson to the President, at media@presidency.gov.za.
