Three men robbed a couple aged 66 and 58 at their home in Broederstroom on Sunday night, taking seven licensed firearms, ammunition, two cellphones, a laptop, cash and other belongings before fleeing.

Hartbeespoortdam police are investigating a case of house robbery. No arrests have been made.

According to the South African Police Service, the suspects demanded money and said they knew one of the occupants operated a kiosk at a nearby resort. They then gained access to a safe.

The seven firearms, of different calibres, were all reportedly licensed in the male victim’s name. Police say the man operates an anti-poaching school.

The 66-year-old was injured during the incident. Police say he was threatened and had hot water dropped on him by the suspects in an attempt to extract information, and that he later sought medical attention from a doctor. The injuries are described as minor.

Detective Warrant Officer Gregory Kwadi of Hartbeespoortdam SAPS Detectives is handling the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact him on 082 373 9636.

The theft of seven licensed firearms in a single house robbery puts weapons into circulation that police will now have to trace, and it lands on a household in a rural part of the Hartbeespoortdam policing area where response times and farm attacks are a standing concern for residents.

Police have released no description of the suspects and have not said how entry was gained to the property.
