Father and two children ambushed reversing out of Pinetown driveway as gunman opens fire
A 35-year-old man has been arrested at KwaDabeka and charged over the 9 October attack at Lee Place, where the father returned fire and killed one of the attackers.
A father reversing out of his driveway at Lee Place with his two children in the car came under fire on Friday, 9 October 2026, when unknown suspects got out of a vehicle behind them, according to the South African Police Service.
One of the suspects allegedly started shooting towards the father. The father returned fire and fatally wounded one suspect, SAPS said in a statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal.
Pinetown detectives investigating the attempted carjacking and three counts of attempted murder followed information to KwaDabeka, where they arrested a 35-year-old suspect on Sunday, 25 October 2026.
The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition, police said. He has been charged with attempted carjacking, three counts of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He is due to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
Enquiries on the case are directed to Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza on 082 826 8948.
The statement is a police summary of the case rather than the docket itself, and the charges against the suspect have not been tested in court.
