SANDF names Brigadier General Zanele Mahlangu to head doctrine development
The defence force announced the appointment on its official X account, describing her career as spanning infantry instruction and joint operational planning.
Brigadier General Zanele Mahlangu is the South African National Defence Force’s new Director of Doctrine Development, the SANDF said in a post on its official X account on Thursday.
The defence force described her as “a force to be reckoned with” and said her career spans roles from infantry instruction to joint operational planning. The post carried three photographs.

Doctrine development is the branch of military work that sets out how a force plans, trains and fights, and it sits behind the manuals and operating concepts that shape how units are prepared. The SANDF gave no further detail on what Mahlangu’s priorities in the post will be, or when she took up the role.
The announcement is the defence force’s own account of the appointment. The Enquirer has not independently confirmed the details of her career record.
