Police have launched a manhunt for a pastor after the body of a baby was found covered with leaves not far from a river, eNCA (YouTube) reports.

The case will be investigated as kidnapping, rape and murder, according to the broadcaster. The mother has also alleged that she was raped, it reports.

Investigators from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit are on the ground and the necessary procedures will be followed, including an examination and a referral for counselling for the mother, eNCA states.

The search for the pastor is continuing. According to the broadcast, he allegedly resided with the victim in the area, which the transcript renders as Dloot or Deep Slute.

Police have urged anyone with information about the man’s whereabouts to contact their nearest police station, call 08600 101, or submit a tip-off through the police app, which can be downloaded on any smartphone. The 08600 101 line is an anonymous reporting channel.
