SANDF moves troops into Musina as stolen vehicles and illicit goods are seized at the border
Operation CORONA forces shifted between 4 Artillery Regiment and 10 South African Infantry Battalion in the border town, with the defence force reporting recovered vehicles and confiscated goods.
The South African National Defence Force has moved troops between two units in Musina and says the repositioning formed part of an operation that recovered stolen vehicles and seized illicit goods at the border.
In a post on X on Sunday, the defence force said the “stealth repositioning of forces” between 4 Artillery Regiment and 10 South African Infantry Battalion took place in Musina, the Limpopo town that sits against the Zimbabwe border and the Beitbridge crossing.

The post said Operation CORONA, the defence force’s long-running border safeguarding deployment, continues. It described the movement as successful and said the operation was recovering stolen vehicles and confiscating illicit goods.
No figures were given. The defence force did not say how many vehicles were recovered, what goods were seized, whether anyone was arrested or charged, or when the repositioning and seizures took place. It published four photographs with the post.
Musina is the busiest land corridor between South Africa and its neighbours to the north, and the crossing carries legal trade and travel alongside the smuggling of vehicles, fuel, cigarettes and other goods. The defence force has deployed soldiers to the border under Operation CORONA for years, working alongside the police and the revenue service.

The Enquirer has asked the defence force for the number of vehicles recovered, the nature and value of the goods seized, whether arrests followed, and the date of the operation. Those answers will be added when they are received.
