Nzimande takes the tooling floor at Walter Sisulu University as Mthatha campus eyes local manufacturing work
The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister visits the Institute for Advanced Tooling at the university's KuGompo City Campus on Monday, 2 November 2026, with the Technology Stations Programme the stated focus.
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, visits the Institute for Advanced Tooling at Walter Sisulu University’s KuGompo City Campus on Monday, 2 November 2026.
The government announced the visit on its official X account, saying it will highlight the role of the Technology Stations Programme in promoting technology-driven innovation, localisation and industrial development in South Africa.
The Institute for Advanced Tooling sits inside a university that serves the Eastern Cape, a province where manufacturing and technical skills are a live economic question. The government’s own framing puts the visit in that territory: tooling, localisation and industrial development rather than a general campus tour.
The Technology Stations Programme is the stated centre of the visit. Beyond that description, the announcement did not set out what the minister will open, launch, fund or commit to on the day, and no new spending, partnership or policy decision was attached to it.
That leaves the substance of Monday’s visit to be established on the ground at KuGompo City Campus, where the institute’s work and the programme’s reach in the province will be on display.
