A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a case of pointing of a firearm after an incident on Motjeteng Main Road in Maake, Limpopo, police said.

The arrest, announced by the South African Police Service, follows an incident on Monday, 2 November 2026 at about 15:30. According to the police account, the complainant, a 38-year-old man from Moime Village, had gone to the Lekgolo Maake voting station to monitor voting progress when he was asked to help by transporting four elderly people to the voting station.

He asked two party agents to accompany him to his vehicle, a Toyota double-cab. When they reached it, police say, he found a man he did not know sitting in the back seat. The man refused to get out when asked, and the complainant went ahead with him and the two party agents to collect the elderly people.

While they were travelling along Motjeteng Main Road, the man in the back is alleged to have started shouting and to have pointed a firearm at the complainant. Fearing for his life, the complainant stopped the vehicle and ran. The man then got out and left the scene, according to police.

A joint operation by Maake Detectives and the Mopani Tracking Team on Tuesday, 3 November 2026 traced and arrested the suspect.

He is expected to appear before the Lenyenye (Maake) Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 5 November 2026, facing a charge of pointing of a firearm. Police said investigations are ongoing.

The account is police’s own statement of the case and the charge has not been tested in court. The Enquirer will follow the case as it moves through the Lenyenye (Maake) Magistrate’s Court, and will report what the court record establishes about the charge and the events on Motjeteng Main Road.
