Limpopo police and IEC to face the media after three days of voting
Provincial commissioner Jan Petrus Scheepers and electoral officer Nkaro Mateta will brief reporters in Polokwane on Thursday afternoon on the 2026 local government elections.
Limpopo police and the Electoral Commission will brief the media together in Polokwane on Thursday afternoon, after voting in the 2026 local government elections ran from 2 to 4 November.
The briefing is set for 14:00 at the IEC Results Operation Centre at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane. It will be addressed by the Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers, and the IEC Provincial Electoral Officer, Nkaro Mateta.
According to the police service’s announcement, the briefing will give an overview of the voting process and of the security measures put in place through the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure, known as ProvJoints, which SAPS describes as having been directed at free, safe and secure elections.
Media wishing to attend have been asked to RSVP to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba on 082 451 7180.
SAPS characterised the voting process as successful in its invitation. The substance of that assessment, and the detail behind the security arrangements, is what Thursday’s briefing is expected to set out.
