A 26-year-old farm dweller has been arrested and charged with the murder of a neighbour in the Goedemoed policing precinct in the Free State, the South African Police Service said on Tuesday.

SAPS said the suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon on the murder charge. The service did not name the suspect, the deceased neighbour or the farm, and it gave no account of how the death occurred.

“The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. Investigation continues,” the police statement read.

Police released no further details on the circumstances of the death, the relationship between the two neighbours or the date of the first court appearance. The Enquirer has not independently established those details.

Goedemoed sits in the eastern Free State, in the district served by the local Magistrate’s Court.
