Cape Town pushes residents to its own news channel as ratepayers ask where the water, power and refuse answers are
The City's official X account used its 5 November post to point followers to the latest City News Online edition, with no service detail carried in the post itself.
The City of Cape Town used its official X account on 5 November to send residents to the latest edition of City News Online, describing the publication as carrying “updates, important information and stories that matter to you and your community”.
The post asked followers to read and share the edition and carried a link to it, along with a photograph. It did not name a single service, project, deadline or decision inside the edition.
That is the whole of what the City’s account put in front of its followers that day: an instruction to go and read the news somewhere else, in the City’s own voice, on the City’s own platform.
For Capetonians the practical questions are the ones the post leaves standing. Whether the edition carries anything on water restrictions, electricity outages, refuse collection, rates, housing lists or the state of the roads is not stated in the post itself, and readers who want the detail have to follow the link.
The post is the City’s own statement of its communication priorities. It is not a service announcement, and nothing in it commits the City to a date, a figure or an answer on any of the things residents raise at ward meetings and in call centres.
The Enquirer has not reviewed the linked edition and makes no claim about its contents beyond what the City’s post says.
