Two former police generals arrested over leaked docket in harassment case
Andrea Johnson and Feroz Khan were processed at a Pretoria police station on a charge of defeating the ends of justice, eNCA (YouTube) reports, with both expected in court.
Two former senior police officers, Andrea Johnson and Feroz Khan, have been arrested on a charge of defeating the ends of justice and were processed at a Pretoria police station on Friday morning, eNCA (YouTube) reported.
A warrant for the arrests was authorised on Thursday, according to the broadcast. It described the arrests as a breakthrough by a task team set up on the recommendation of the McDonald commission.
Johnson is a former head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks. Khan is a former major general who served in the police crime intelligence unit. Both are expected to appear before a Pretoria magistrates court, where the broadcast said members of the National Prosecuting Authority had also been deployed. It is Johnson’s first appearance on this charge.
The charge arises from evidence placed before the McDonald commission that Johnson gave Khan sensitive information connected to a docket. That docket concerned a complaint of harassment and assault against a complainant, and the broadcast said the information allowed Khan to work through the complainant’s version and strengthen material for his warning statement.
It is not yet clear whether further arrests will follow or whether more charges will be added to the charge sheet. The broadcast did not say when the matter was expected to be heard beyond the morning appearance.
Khan also faces a separate criminal charge alongside a Hawks official, Ibrahim Khadra, according to eNCA (YouTube).
