Two male suspects were arrested in Limpopo on Monday, 02 November 2026 in connection with election-related offences, the South African Police Service said, as the province heads into the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The arrests cover two separate incidents. In the first, a male suspect was arrested in the Mankweng policing area for allegedly unlawfully removing election posters. The incident was reportedly captured on video. A case was registered at Mankweng Police Station for contravention of Section 92 of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998. The accused has since appeared in court and the matter was remanded to 30 November 2026.

In the second, a male suspect was arrested in the Sekhukhune District in connection with an assault and intimidation case. According to the police account, it is alleged that the complainant’s political party T-shirt was forcibly removed and subsequently set alight during an incident involving members allegedly affiliated with a political party. A case was registered at Sekhukhune Police Station and investigations are continuing.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers, said SAPS would not tolerate acts of intimidation, violence, or the unlawful destruction and removal of election material. He urged political parties, their supporters and communities to respect the law, exercise political tolerance and resolve differences peacefully.

Police said they will continue to monitor election-related incidents and act against anyone found violating the law.

The statement does not name the suspects, the political party referred to in the Sekhukhune incident, or the court that heard the Mankweng matter. It is a SAPS media statement summarising the cases rather than the court or docket record itself.
