Traffic on Turfhall Road will switch onto a new carriageway from 9 November 2026, the City of Cape Town said in a post on its official X account.

The diversion runs between Castor/Benona Road and Leafmore Road while work continues. One lane in each direction will remain open through the affected stretch.

The City asked drivers to travel carefully and to follow the temporary signage put up for the switch.

Turfhall Road is a busy artery through the southern suburbs, and the change of carriageway is likely to be felt most at peak times, when a single open lane each way has to carry the usual volume. Drivers who use the route daily should expect the temporary layout to be in place for the duration of the work.

The City’s post did not give an end date for the construction or say how long the diverted layout will last.
