SITA hosts GovTech 2025 in Durban to push integrated digital government

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) will host the GovTech 2025 Conference from 8 to 10 September at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The event, supported by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT), will be officially opened by Minister Solly Malatsi.

According to the South African Government, the conference will be held under the theme: “One Data, One Citizen, One Service Delivery Journey. Digital Transformation.” It will bring together government departments, technology providers and other stakeholders to discuss critical issues in building an integrated digital government.

What the conference will cover

The conference programme will unpack five key areas:

• Building an integrated digital government
• Unlocking interoperability at scale
• Designing service systems from the citizen’s point of view
• Secure data sharing and platform integration across departments
• Driving a seamless, ethical and inclusive digital public service

These themes reflect ongoing efforts to improve how government delivers services digitally, with a focus on making systems work together and putting citizens at the centre.

Why it matters

For ordinary South Africans, the success of digital government could mean easier access to services, less time spent in queues and more efficient use of public resources. When departments share data securely and systems are interoperable, citizens can update their details once and have that change reflected across multiple services. This reduces administrative burdens and can help prevent fraud and duplication.

The conference also signals a push for ethical and inclusive digital transformation, ensuring that no one is left behind as government moves online.
