Khan's lawyer won't say if his client is defying the commission
Muhammad Vally told eNCA he would take instructions after the commission chairperson ordered the secretary to lay charges over Khan's absence.
A lawyer appearing for General Khan has declined to say whether his client is defying the commission’s subpoena, telling eNCA only that he would take instructions and deal with the matter at the appropriate forum.
Muhammad Vally was speaking to the broadcaster after the commission chairperson instructed the secretary to lay charges against his client over Khan’s non-attendance. The commission has described Khan’s absence as a flagrant disregard of its proceedings.
Asked for his reaction to the instruction to lay charges, Vally said the matter would be dealt with in the fullness of time at the appropriate forum. Pressed on what the development meant in light of the argument he had put to the commission, he said he now needed to take instructions and deal with it as it arises.
He maintained his position on the commission’s characterisation of Khan’s non-attendance, saying he did not agree with it, but ended the exchange shortly afterwards, saying he had to go.
On the next legal step, Vally said he still had to take instructions and that the next move would become known once it was taken. The broadcaster reported that Khan’s legal team appeared to be returning to the drawing board to decide what happens next.
Asked about a separate labour matter, Vally confirmed his client had been dismissed from the service and that a challenge to that decision had already taken the next step, which would play out in the fullness of time.
