DA's Dirk Kotze set to keep Mossel Bay mayoral chain for a second term
The party's local leader credits a five-year record and an 18-month campaign, and says residents handed it a near two-thirds mandate.
Dirk Kotze is expected to keep the Mossel Bay mayoral chain for a second term, after the DA’s showing in the local government elections.
Speaking after the result, Kotze put the outcome down to a team effort over five years rather than the campaign alone. He said the party’s administration had worked hard across that period, with councillors doing the actual work on the ground while the leadership set strategy.
He also pointed to how the party communicated with residents. In earlier elections, he said, residents had asked where the party had been and what it was doing. This time, he said, the DA kept telling residents which decisions it was taking and which infrastructure it was rolling out.
The campaign itself ran for 18 months, but Kotze framed the win as the product of the full term in office. He said the party was proud and thankful for what he described as a near two-thirds majority in Mossel Bay, and that a solid mandate from residents would make a tough job easier over the next five years.
He admitted that looking ahead to another term was a bit daunting, but said the party was excited and honoured by the result.
