Wentworth shooting suspect caught in Montclair with two pistols and 57 rounds
The 29-year-old was arrested by the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit and is due in the Durban magistrate's court on Tuesday.
A 29-year-old man is due to appear in the Durban magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the South African Police Service says.
Members of the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit arrested him in Montclair on Monday, 21 September 2026.
According to the police statement, officers received information about an individual in possession of unlicensed firearms. Further investigation indicated the suspect could be linked to a number of shootings in Wentworth.
Acting on that information, the officers went to the suspect’s flat in Montclair. On arrival, the man tried to flee and was caught, police say. He was found with two pistols, four magazines and 57 rounds of ammunition.
He was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to establish whether they were used in the commission of any other crime.
The statement, issued by the office of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, is a summary of the police account. The ballistic results are not yet available, and the charges have not been tested in court.
