Two brothers who ran a lounge bar in Bloemfontein were shot dead in their vehicle at the gate of a premises on Ramatsoele Street in Bochabela on Wednesday morning, and police are looking for the people who did it.
They were Kegomodicoe Lekone and Keabecoe Lekone, both 52, the owners of Ekhayeni Lounge Bar. The two were in a charcoal-coloured Ford Ranger when they were killed.
According to a statement from the office of the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Mangaung police received a report of a shooting in progress from radio control at about 8.51am. Officers reached the scene at roughly 9am and found both men inside the bakkie.
“Both the driver and the passenger suffered gunshot wounds,” police said. ER24 paramedics declared both men dead at the scene.
As eNCA reported on Wednesday, a witness told police he heard gunshots from upstairs in the double-storey building and ran outside to look. The witness saw a man running towards a white Chevrolet Aveo hatchback, which then sped away.
“He didn’t see if the male person had an object in his hands,” the statement said. Police believe there may have been two other occupants already inside the Aveo when the man reached it.
The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes, Murder and Robbery Unit has taken up the investigation into the double murder. Police have asked anyone who can help identify or find the suspects to come forward.
