Three men aged between 22 and 27 have been arrested in connection with a house robbery and kidnapping reported in Makapanstad, the South African Police Service said in a statement issued through the office of the North West provincial commissioner.

The arrests were made on Thursday, 1 October 2026, in an intelligence-driven operation involving Brits Crime Intelligence, the Brits Trio Task Team and Makapanstad Detectives. The operation began after information was received to help investigators trace suspects linked to the Makapanstad case.

According to the police account, armed men entered a residence in Makapanstad on Thursday, 30 April 2024 while the victim was watching television. They allegedly held him at gunpoint, took his vehicle keys and valuables, and forced him into a silver Toyota Quantum.

The statement says the men drove him to another location, where they demanded his bankcards and threatened him and his son. A substantial amount of money was then withdrawn from his bank account.

The victim did not report the incident immediately. Police say he had been threatened and instructed not to approach them. He later came forward, and his vehicle was subsequently found abandoned in the street.

Follow-up investigations led officers to the first suspect at his home in Soshanguve and the second at a training academy. The third was traced and arrested at Legonyane.

All three are expected to appear before the Themba Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 5 October 2026 on charges relating to house robbery and kidnapping. Police say the investigation continues and that they are tracing other suspects believed to be linked to the case.

The North West provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, commended the members involved in the operation. He said SAPS will continue to pursue suspects in serious and violent crimes, and urged victims of crime to report incidents so that accused people are brought before the courts.

This report is based on a SAPS media statement, which is a summary of the case rather than the court record. The charges have not been tested in court and the three men are presumed innocent.
