Makhanda police units searched the premises under Section 22 of the Criminal Procedure Act and seized a Taurus revolver with no ammunition.
Police in the Eastern Cape have recovered a revolver stolen during a house robbery in Nqweba and arrested a 43-year-old man found with it in Kwanojoli.
The arrest followed a joint operation on the night of Monday, 2 November 2026, when the Makhanda Crime Intelligence Unit, Makhanda K9 and the Makhanda Crime Prevention Unit searched premises in the area at about 22:30.
Police say the operation began with information received on Sunday, 1 November at about 14:30 that a resident was in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The search was conducted under Section 22 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
Officers seized a Taurus revolver with no ammunition. When the weapon’s details were circulated, investigators established that it had been stolen during a previous house robbery in Nqweba.
The man was arrested on the spot. He faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm, and police say further charges may follow as investigators examine his possible link to the robbery.
He is due to appear before the Nqweba Magistrate’s Court soon.
