Special voting has begun across the country, and the Electoral Commission says the first day closed with the operational problems it encountered at voting stations resolved.

The commission’s chief executive briefed on progress nationwide on day one, according to a media statement issued on Monday evening. The statement says delays at voting stations were addressed, and sets out the guidelines for voters who will receive home visits tomorrow.

Home visits are the arrangement for voters who cannot travel to a voting station, and the commission has issued rules for how those visits will work on the second day of special voting. It has also restated the key rules that apply inside voting stations.

The commission’s statement included weather updates for the special voting period.

The statement did not give a national figure for how many voters cast ballots on day one, or say how many voting stations were affected by the delays.

Special voting runs ahead of the main voting day, with the commission managing both station-based voting for registered special voters and home visits for those unable to reach a station.
