SAPS to farewell Free State sergeant killed in N8 convoy crash
Sergeant Lucas Tshediso Semenyane died at the scene near Sannaspos on 12 September, and a culpable homicide case is under investigation.
The South African Police Service in the Free State will bid farewell to Sergeant Lucas Tshediso Semenyane, 47, who died when a vehicle collided with the police convoy he was travelling in on the N8 National Road near Sannaspos.
The collision happened at about 02:45 in the early hours of Saturday, 12 September 2026. Sergeant Semenyane and fellow police members were responding to a complaint at the time. He was declared deceased at the scene.
Constable Menzeleni Douglas Macala, 44, who was travelling in the same vehicle, was injured and taken to hospital. He has since been discharged.
A case of culpable homicide has been registered, and the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, according to the police service.
Services
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, 23 September 2026 at 11:00 at the Norman Doubell Hall in Heidedal, Bloemfontein.
The official funeral service will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2026 at 08:00 at Seemahale Secondary School in K-Section, Botshabelo.
Colleagues, family members, friends and members of the community will gather at both services. The SAPS in the Free State has extended its condolences to Sergeant Semenyane’s family, friends and colleagues.
