Rand firms and bond yields fall as Treasury trims weekly bond sales

A softer September inflation print and smaller fixed-rate and inflation-linked bond issuances lifted the rand and government bonds, though the market reaction was muted because much of it was already priced in, eNCA (YouTube) reported.

The rand strengthened and government bond yields fell after the mid-term budget, with National Treasury’s decision to cut its weekly issuance of fixed-rate and inflation-linked bonds helping sentiment, eNCA (YouTube) reported.

September consumer inflation also came in softer than expected, which the broadcast described as a net positive for the market on a data-heavy day.

The reaction was positive but subdued, according to the report, because much of it had already been priced in. The bond market was described as the best read on how investors received the budget speech.
