Police trace and arrest 106 suspects in Sarah Baartman District, most for assault and domestic violence
Detectives carried out a week of targeted tracing operations from Monday, 12 October to Sunday, 18 October 2026.
Detectives in the Sarah Baartman District of the Eastern Cape arrested 106 suspects during a week-long series of targeted tracing operations, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said. The operations ran from Monday, 12 October 2026 to Sunday, 18 October 2026.
Most of the suspects were apprehended for assault and domestic violence-related cases, according to the police statement. Most have already appeared in court, while the remaining individuals are due to appear soon to face their respective charges.
The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, commended the detectives. “I highly commend our detectives across the Sarah Baartman District for their outstanding commitment and tireless efforts over the past week,” she said. “Tracing and apprehending 106 suspects requires meticulous planning, coordination, and dedication to ensuring that those who break the law are brought to book.”
Kupiso said the operations send a message that fleeing from justice is a temporary delay, not an escape. “By tracking down these individuals and presenting them before our courts, our detective service continues to restore public confidence and strengthen the criminal justice system,” she concluded.
The SAPS advisory did not name the suspects, the specific charges against them, or the courts where they appeared. It is a summary of the operations rather than a detailed case record.
