Police line Western Cape voting stations as residents cast local election ballots
SAPS members are deployed across the province's polling stations for the 2026 Local Government Elections, with officers staying on the ground through the voting process.
Police are stationed at voting stations across the Western Cape as residents cast their ballots in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The South African Police Service said its members are deployed at polling stations throughout the province as part of security measures for the elections.

The service said the officers’ presence is aimed at maintaining stability, preventing disruptions and ensuring that voters can exercise their democratic right in a safe environment.
Police said they will remain on the ground throughout the voting process to safeguard communities and respond to any incidents.
SAPS announced the deployment in a post on X on Monday, 2 November 2026, under the hashtag #sapsWC, alongside three photographs from the service. The post carried the tags #LGE2026 and #SafetyAndSecurity.

The Western Cape is one of the provinces where voters are choosing local government representatives. Polling stations opened for residents to cast their ballots, and police visibility forms part of the security arrangements around the process.
The Enquirer is seeking further detail from SAPS on the scale of the deployment, the number of voting stations covered and any incidents reported during the day, and will publish what the service confirms.
