Police arrest three suspects and seize two firearms in weekend Western Cape operations

Western Cape police arrested three men in separate incidents over the weekend of Sunday, 20 September 2026, recovering two prohibited firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition, according to a South African Police Service media statement from the office of the provincial commissioner.

The first two arrests came from a Tactical Response Team operation in Macassar and Lentegeur. At about 12:30, officers followed up on information that took them to Terrence Mccaw in Newlands, where they found a prohibited firearm under a bed and arrested a 26-year-old man. The firearm was booked in as an exhibit. The suspect will appear at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.

An hour later, at about 13:30, officers arrested an adult man for possession of drugs in Acorn Creek, Macassar. He will make a first appearance at the Somerset Magistrates’ Court once charged.

In a separate incident, members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested a 21-year-old man outside a tavern in Langa. He was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition and was detained at Langa SAPS. He will appear at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once charged.

The statement does not give the names of the two other suspects, the date of the court appearances, or the type of firearm and drugs involved. SAPS lists the cases as gang-affiliated activity. The charges are yet to be put to the courts.
