Ntshavheni back in Thembisa for third week running as park clean-up meets the murders that brought her there
The Minister in the Presidency leads the Love Your Street programme in Ekurhuleni, three weeks after the discovery of the bodies of several women in the same municipality.
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni is in Thembisa today, leading a delegation of government officials, civil society organisations and community members through the Love Your Street service delivery programme in the Ekurhuleni Municipality.
It is her second visit to the area in three weeks. Thembisa is the municipality where the bodies of several women were recently discovered.
The Presidency and the Government Communication and Information System launched the campaign in the Western Cape earlier this year. According to the GCIS statement carried by SAnews, Love Your Street forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to promote community pride, active citizenry and clean, safe neighbourhoods, and builds on the Clean Cities and Towns campaign launched by Deputy President Paul Mashatile in 2025.
The programme works through partnerships between communities and municipalities to keep cities and townships clean, including addressing illegal dumping and overgrown grass.
The GCIS says the campaign also accelerates integrated service delivery interventions, including gender-based violence and femicide awareness, by turning neglected, poorly lit and overgrown parks and open spaces identified as GBVF hotspots into safe, clean community spaces, while educating residents about GBVF reporting mechanisms and available services.
It further accelerates the Presidential 1 Billion Trees Planting campaign, which the statement describes as promoting a collaborative and inclusive approach to environmental sustainability, greening, climate resilience and community participation across all communities.
Ntshavheni is expected to take part in the cleaning of a local park and in tree planting today.
This report is based on the official account published by SAnews, the South African Government News Agency, which is a summary of the programme and the GCIS statement rather than the full record of the visit.
