Mpumalanga premier Mandla Ndlovu votes, then tells residents: have you?
The provincial government used its official X account to confirm the premier had cast his ballot and to press residents to do the same in the local government elections.
Premier Mandla Ndlovu has voted in the 2026 local government elections, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government said on its official X account on Wednesday.
The post confirmed the premier had cast his ballot and then turned the question on residents, asking whether they had voted and calling on them to choose who will lead local government in their area.
“Exercise your democratic right, go and vote to chose who will lead local government in your area,” the provincial government wrote, accompanying the message with the hashtags #LGE2026, #LocalGovernmentElections and #DemocracyAtWork.
The same account carries the provincial slogan #MpumalangaAProvinceThatWorksForAll.
The post did not say where the premier voted, at what time, or which municipality his ballot was cast in. It also gave no turnout figures for the province and no detail on how voting was proceeding at stations across Mpumalanga.
Local government elections decide the councils that run municipalities, the tier of government closest to residents and the one responsible for water, sanitation, refuse collection, electricity distribution in many areas, and local roads.
