MK Party's 2024 election challenge dismissed as party insists it was robbed
The Electoral Court has ruled against the MK Party's bid to overturn the 2024 national election results, with the party maintaining it was denied around 900,000 votes.
The Electoral Court has dismissed the MK Party’s challenge to the 2024 national and provincial election results, according to eNCA (YouTube). The party had argued that millions of votes cast for it were not counted.
Speaking after the ruling, a representative of the MK Party said the party had been seeking justice for the millions of voters who supported it. The party claimed that its votes were dumped and that some were found in the boots of cars and in toilets across the country.
The MK Party said it compiled evidence in its court papers and confirmed its claims through IT experts from leading South African brands. It said the evidence included videos of what happened in 2024. The party described the disappearance of the results dashboard from screens for just over two hours as the overarching part of its evidence, and said the numbers that appeared before the screen went blank were not the numbers that returned.
In its papers, the party argued it was owed around 900,000 votes. It said it does not believe it was the third biggest party in South Africa, and that it contended for second position or was the biggest party in the country.
The IEC argued against the party’s case, and the court ruled in the IEC’s favour. The MK Party said the IEC had gone to see President Jacob Zuma to say its reputation was taking a knock, and that those were the IEC’s words, not the party’s. The party described the case as a David and Goliath situation and said it maintains it was robbed, adding that it and the IEC know the truth.
The Electoral Court’s dismissal means the 2024 election results stand.
