MK Party tells voters to film and log every electoral incident

The party's official X account urges supporters to record the time, place and people involved, and to keep copies of every official decision, under its #VoteMKParty campaign.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has told supporters to record electoral incidents as they happen, setting out what to note and what to keep.

In a post on its official X account on Wednesday, the party said anyone who witnesses an incident should write down the time, the location and the people involved, and should keep evidence and copies of all official decisions. It closed the instruction with two lines: “Facts matter. Accountability matters.”

The post carried four campaign hashtags, #VoteMKParty, #DumelaMoagisane, #SithathaOmasipala and #MasibuyeleBantwini, and one photograph.

The instruction is addressed to voters rather than to the party’s own structures. It does not name the Electoral Commission of South Africa, describe a specific incident or allege that anything has gone wrong. Read plainly, it is a call for a paper trail: a record kept by the people who were there, in their own hands, rather than an account assembled afterwards.

That is the party’s stated position, made on a public platform and attributed to it. It carries no claim that the electoral process has been compromised.

The MK Party’s public record on electoral disputes is a matter of documented proceedings rather than of this post. The party has taken electoral matters to court before, and its public statements on the conduct of elections have been a recurring feature of its political activity. This post adds a public instruction to supporters on how to build a record of their own.

Nothing in the post says what supporters should do with what they collect, and the party has not said whether it will gather the material centrally.
