ActionSA’s Johannesburg mayoral candidate, Herman Mashaba, cast his vote at the Sandton Fire Station on Wednesday and used the moment to call on residents to follow him to the polls.

In a post on the party’s official X account, ActionSA said Mashaba had voted and was urging South Africans to “come out in their numbers and make their voices heard”.

The party told followers there was still time to participate and to “make an impact in the future of your city”, closing the post with its campaign hashtag, #VoteActionSA, and the line “It’s time for Action!”.

The message is a turnout appeal rather than a policy announcement. It places the party’s mayoral candidate in the queue with ordinary voters in Sandton and asks Johannesburg residents who have not yet voted to do the same before voting closes.

ActionSA is contesting the Johannesburg mayoralty, with Mashaba as its candidate. The party’s post did not carry any result, projection or comment on how the vote is going, and no turnout figures for the metro were included.

What the party has put on the record is its closing argument to Johannesburg voters: that the city’s future is decided by those who show up. Whether they do will be known when the count is completed.
