Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has cast his vote in the 2026 Local Government Elections, doing so at Thuto Ke Maatla Secondary School in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, his office said.

The Gauteng Provincial Government, posting on its official X account, said the Premier encouraged residents to exercise their democratic right and make their voices heard in shaping the future of their communities.

The post carried four photographs of the Premier at the school.

Local government elections decide the councils that run the country’s municipalities, the bodies responsible for water, electricity reticulation, refuse collection, roads and local planning. In Ekurhuleni, as across Gauteng, those services are the everyday test of whoever takes office.

The provincial government’s message to residents was simple: vote, and use the ballot to shape what happens in your area.
