A 24-year-old Greenpoint man has been sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for fatally stabbing his father, the South African Police Service said in a statement issued from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape in Kimberley.

Fergus Moeketsi Links was sentenced in the Kimberley Regional Court. Four years of the ten-year term are suspended for five years, on condition that he is not convicted of a similar offence committed during the suspension period. The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

According to the police account, the stabbing happened on 6 October 2025. At about 18:30 the deceased arrived home with his partner, who is also the accused’s mother. Links allegedly confronted his father, and when the situation escalated he stabbed him. Police and emergency medical personnel were summoned, and the 50-year-old victim was declared deceased at the scene.

The murder was investigated by Detective Sergeant Nomathamasanqa Molusi of the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Police say her investigation secured compelling evidence against Links, and that she successfully opposed bail, so he remained in custody until his conviction and sentencing.

The Acting Frances Baard District Commissioner, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, commended Detective Sergeant Molusi for her dedication and professionalism in ensuring that justice was served. SAPS said it remains committed to bringing perpetrators to justice in line with its Reset Agenda.
