Gun with its serial number filed off found on Goud Street as police stop two men in Old Eldorado Park
Officers acting on crime intelligence searched two men on their way to buy live ammunition and arrested one of them for carrying a 9mm pistol with no magazine and no licence.
Police in Old Eldorado Park arrested a man for possession of an unlicensed firearm after a crime prevention patrol was tipped off about two men walking along Goud Street towards Kopper Street to buy live ammunition.
The Gauteng police crime prevention unit, working with Gauteng Traffic Wardens, was deployed across the sectors of Eldorado Park on Monday when the information came in at about 21:50, according to a South African Police Service statement. The tip described one of the two men as wearing a green Adidas camouflage top jacket and khaki long trousers, and as carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Officers went to Goud Street and found two men matching that description. They asked to search them. A 9mm firearm was found, its serial number filed off and with no magazine in it. The man could not produce a valid firearm licence and was arrested at the scene.
He is being held at Eldorado Park SAPS and is expected to appear in court. Police did not name him, and the statement gave no date for the appearance. The investigation continues.
A firearm with its serial number removed cannot be traced back to a licensed owner or to its last legal sale, which is why the detail carries weight in a case built on possession rather than on use.
