A 37-year-old woman from Giyani has been arrested by the Limpopo Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for allegedly defrauding her sister of R1 million, the South African Police Service said in a media statement.

According to the statement, the complainant transferred R1 million into the suspect’s bank account for safekeeping. When she later asked for the money back, the suspect allegedly refused to return it.

The matter was reported at Waterval SAPS. Investigators confirmed that the R1 million had been transferred into the suspect’s account, and further investigation revealed that the money had allegedly been used for other purposes and was no longer available.

The suspect handed herself over to police at Waterval SAPS on Friday, 25 September 2026, and was arrested. She appeared before the Waterval Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was postponed to Tuesday, 29 September 2026 for a formal bail application.

The police statement is a summary of the case rather than the court record itself. The investigation continues.
