Free State father gets eight years for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter
A detective's court-ready docket and victim support helped secure the conviction in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court, the police service says.
The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 40-year-old man to eight years of direct imprisonment for the sexual assault of his 13-year-old biological daughter, the South African Police Service said in a statement issued from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner for the Free State.
The conviction follows an incident on 27 May 2024, when the man sexually assaulted the victim in his bedroom. According to the police account, he subjected her to inappropriate sexual conduct and made derogatory remarks to justify his actions before she eventually disclosed the abuse to her mother.
The police service named Detective Sergeant Peter, whose investigation ensured the docket was court-ready and who supported the victim throughout the criminal justice process.
“This successful conviction and substantial sentence reaffirm the commitment of the Free State SAPS to victim-centred policing and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice,” the statement said.
The account is drawn from a SAPS media statement rather than the court record itself. Enquiries can be directed to Sergeant Sinah Mpakane of the South African Police Service on 082 525 2885.
