Five suspects aged between 27 and 49 have been arrested in the Free State on charges of alleged theft and possession of suspected stolen property after police responded to information about a possible theft at a farm in the Allanridge policing precinct.

According to the South African Police Service, members attached to the Allanridge Rural Safety received the information on Thursday, 1 October 2026 at approximately 19:00. The unit was mobilised and, with the assistance of farmers in the area, the suspects were spotted.

A white Colt pickup with two occupants was intercepted on the S963 route. Police found containers holding approximately 100 litres of diesel, and the two suspects were arrested.

Further investigation led police to Modderfontein farm, where three more suspects were arrested. The vehicle alleged to have been used in the commission of the crime was confiscated.

The five suspects are expected to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 5 October 2026.
