EFF sends its Tshwane mayoral candidate into Centurion as voting stations near close
The party's official account says Omphile Maotwe is in Ward 48 with first-time voters, and urges young people to cast EFF ballots in the last three hours of polling.
The Economic Freedom Fighters put its incoming Tshwane mayor on the ground in Centurion on Wednesday, sending Omphile Maotwe into Ward 48 to meet first-time voters in the final hours of polling.
The party’s official X account said Maotwe was engaging residents who, in its words, are “determined to bring the EFF into power”. The post carried four photographs from the party.

With three hours left before voting stations closed, the EFF appealed directly to young people to turn out and vote for the party. “Your vote is your power, and your future is at stake,” the post read, closing with the hashtags #VoteEFF2026 and #VictoryOrDeath.
The message is a familiar one from the party. The EFF has built its pitch around first-time and young voters, and it has campaigned in Tshwane on taking the metro from the coalition arrangement that has run it.
The post does not give turnout figures, results or any indication of how voting in Ward 48 was proceeding. It is the party’s own account of its campaign activity, and the claim that voters in the ward are determined to put the EFF in power is the party’s characterisation of what it found there.

What the material establishes is the activity itself. The EFF’s incoming mayor spent the closing hours of polling in a Centurion ward, and the party used its national account to tell young voters to follow her to the ballot box.
