DA claims 'extraordinary' Cape Town election results and thanks voters
The party's official X account said it is ready to serve every resident of Cape Town and every community where it governs.
The Democratic Alliance has thanked Cape Town voters for what its official X account described as “nothing short of extraordinary” election results, saying the party is ready to serve every resident of the city and every community where it governs.
In the post published on 5 November, the party addressed the city directly: “Kaapstad, you did it!” It thanked “every voter who placed their faith and trust in the DA” and said it would “build on the progress we’ve made” together with residents.
The post closed with a second message to the city: “Thank you, Cape Town. The work starts now!”
The statement is the party’s own account of its result and its reading of what that result means. It did not set out figures, ward-level outcomes or a breakdown of the vote in the post, and it made no specific commitments on housing, services, safety or spending.
The DA governs the City of Cape Town and holds power in a number of other municipalities, chiefly in the Western Cape. Its record in office, and its positions on the provincial and national questions that frame city government, are matters the party argues on its own terms and that its opponents contest.
The post is a statement of thanks and intent rather than a policy announcement. Its substance is the claim that the results were extraordinary and the promise that the party will serve every resident of Cape Town and every community where it governs.
